Growing potatoes using a bed-planting technique

Growing potatoes using a bed-planting technique

Soil management in sustainable agriculture Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture, Wye College, University of London, UK, 31 August to 4 September 1993: 561-568

Six annual field experiments were conducted at ADAS Gleadthorpe to study the relationship between planting techniques and the supply of water. Potatoes were planted into ridges or 2-row beds and were left unirrigated or supplied with irrigation water. Several experiments showed a significant yield increase associated with the use of beds, increased water use efficiency being at least partially responsible for this.
