Growth and feed intake of rats on diets with a high amount of butenolide 5-acetamido-2(5H)-furanone

From weaning, Wistar rats in 3 groups were fed for 28 days on a dry diet of wheat meal 91, vegetable fat 3, vitamin mixture 2 and mineral mixture 4 g/100 g, or that diet supplemented with 5-acetamido-2(5H)-furanone (5AAF), or trichothecene, 4-deoxynivalenol 20 mg/kg. Average daily feed intake was 7.2, 7.3 and 6.4 g, respectively, and average daily body weight gain, 1.42, 1.47 and 1.07 g. At death, liver, spleen, kidneys and lungs were taken for histopathological study.
