Honey production, economic value and geographical significance of apiary sites in Western Australia. A natural resource questionnaire for Western Australian beekeepers

Honey production, economic value and geographical significance of apiary sites in Western Australia. A natural resource questionnaire for Western Australian beekeepers

Australasian Beekeeper 98(9): 376-380

Through a questionnaire, information was obtained from c. 260 beekeepers with 3475 apiary sites, and this has been analysed. The main results include the following (but tables and figures referred to in the paper are not published here). Commercial beekeepers used their sites for about 12 wks/yr with an average density of 101 hives/site; they produced 77% of the total honey value from these apiary sites. For non-commercial beekeepers figures were 26 wks/yr and 60 hives/site.
