Horticultural research and development in Zimbabwe

Horticultural research and development in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Science News 30(1): 3-10

Horticulture is one of the fastest growing farming activities in Zimbabwe today. Horticultural crops have a significant social and economic impact among Zimbabweans because they provide common but, highly nutritious food, contribute relatively high income earnings to the growers while creating employment opportunities for many families. The export value for horticultural produce from Zimbabwe has grown from US 0.4 million in 1985 to over US 100 million in 1996, an amazing growth of 250% in 11 years.
