Identification of a soybean breeding line resistant to rust in the Philippines
The cross Hardee x PI459025 was made at Stoneville in 1984 with the objective of transferring the gene for resistance to rust caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi (Rpp4) from primitive PI459025 to a better adapted genotype. Resistant plants in the F2 generation were grown to maturity and seeds were harvested. In 1987, an advanced rust resistant F3 line was used as a male parent in a cross with Lamar.
