Identification of an early marker of embryogenesis in pine

In order to characterize cell wall proteins specific for early somatic embryo development in Carribean pine (Pinus caribaea), 3 glycosylated polypeptides representative of all embryogenic lines were chosen from the polypeptides ionically bound to cell surfaces. N-terminal amino acid sequencing of one polypeptide revealed homologies with sequences of germin precursors deduced from cDNA sequencing in other plant species and with mature germins of wheat and barley.
