Identification of clones of the indigenous Icelandic Populus tremula and introduced P. trichocarpa by RAPD techniques

Identification of clones of the indigenous Icelandic Populus tremula and introduced P. trichocarpa by RAPD techniques
The use of RAPD molecular markers for DNA typing and diversity estimation in plant species has grown rapidly past few years. In forest genetic research in Iceland the RAPD technique has been applied to discriminate clones and estimate genetic diversity in two species of Populus - P. trichocarpa (black cottonwood) and P. tremula (European aspen). For black cottonwood the aim of the work is to enhance tree improvement for growth and adaptability of this introduced species in Iceland.
