Identification of forest species accumulating aluminium in a forest plantation in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica
Data are presented on foliar Al and nutrient content of nine native tree species growing in plantations at the La Selva Biological Station. Foliar aluminum content was determined by wet digestion of randomly selected leaves from 15 trees of each species. Average contents were 22.4 g/kg for Vochysia guatemalensis and 11.6 g/kg for Vochysia ferruginea, high enough for both to be considered Al accumulators; it was less than 0.25 g/kg for the other species analysed.
