Identification of herbage in the diet of three cattle breeds in a region of New Mexico
Botanical composition of the diet was studied in 29 cattle of 3 breeds (Barzona, Brangus, Beefmaster) grazed continuously on an area of 840 ha in New Mexico, USA. Samples of faeces were analysed microhistologically during 5 periods from August 1991 to November 1992. Plant species present were Sporobolus flexuosus, Bouteloua eriopoda, Aristida adscensionis, Hilaria mutica, Erioneuron pulchellum and Muhlenbergia porteri.
