Identification of homozygotes derived from anthers of asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) with isozyme markers
Eleven enzymes were examined in callus, roots and stems of 1, 2 and 7-year-old asparagus plants derived from anther culture to identify polymorphic loci which could be useful as genetic markers. Two polymorphic loci were identified, one for a root esterase (EST-1) and the other for a shikimate dehydrogenase (SKD-1). Segregation of these loci was examined by test crosses and was consistent with simple Mendelian inheritance.
