Identification of physiological races of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum in Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil

, : Identification of physiological races of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum in Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil. Fitopatologia Brasileira 22(1): 50-53

Seven races of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, the causal agent of common bean anthracose, were identified in 9 producing regions of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, from 1988 to 1992. The resistance of A, Are, and Mexique 1 genes present in the differential series was overcome by the identified races. TU, AB 136 and G2333 cultivars showed broad resistance to the identified C. lindemuthianum races. Differential cultivars, both from Andean and Mesoamerican Phaseolus vulgaris gene pools, were attacked. It is possible to breed cultivars with durable resistance through the use of pyramiding gene strategy using resistant genes that counteract the wide variability of C. lindemuthianum.
