Impact of different sowing dates/seasons on the incidence of insect pests and yield losses in soybean

The kharif crop of soybean suffered higher damage by the insect pests as compared to rabi crop. Early sowing (20 June - 5 July and 1-15 November) had minimum pest incidence and recorded highest grain yield in both the seasons. The crop sown during August and second fortnight of December recorded the maximum incidence of most of the pests. Three need based applications of monocrotophos in kharif and two applications in rabi gave satisfactory control of all the pests, resulting in increased grain yield of 11.2 and 3.1 q/ha over control respectively.
