Induction of parturition in sows with etiproston

Etiproston, a prostaglandin F2 alpha analogue, was administered i.m. into the neck of sows at 0.85 mg (Group A, n=10), 1.7 mg (Group B, 20 sows), or 3.4 mg (Group C, 10 sows) and 10 sows were administered 2 ml of placebo (group D) at day 112-113 of gestation. The time from the drug administration to the start of parturition was 49.1+or-30.4 h, 28.0+or-14.8 h and 27.0+or-4.5 h for Groups A, B and C, respectively, compared with 56.7+or-27.6 h for the control group.
