Possible physical links between global sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) and SE African summer rainfall were investigated. A series of general circulation model (GCM) experiments were performed, where the model atmosphere was forced with certain SST anomaly patterns thought to be related to drought conditions over the subcontinent.
