The economics of agricultural technology in semiarid Sub Saharan Africa: 193-212



The chapter compares the development of the semiarid zones of sub-Saharan Africa through the intensification of livestock farming or the improvement of mixed farming systems. The input intensive nature of livestock intensification is discussed, focusing on dairy production and the expansion of the milk market. The evolution of the mixed farming system in sub-Saharan Africa is examined along with the economic importance of livestock within the system.
