An account is given of a method proposed in Belarus for the conversion of small logs (8-12 cm diam., 0.5-2 m long) into lumber. The method is covered by Belarus Patent No. 950288 (1995), and involves pre-sorting the logs by diameter and length, milling them to cylindrical form, then milling a spherical groove along them, and rip-sawing them into two halves symmetrically to this groove.
