Malaria and proximity to irrigation projects: a parasitaemia prevalence study from Sri Lanka

, : Malaria and proximity to irrigation projects: a parasitaemia prevalence study from Sri Lanka. Mosquito Borne Diseases Bulletin 11(4): 112-121

One newly settled village and one ancient village within 2 km of an irrigation project in the Hambantota district of Sri Lanka, and two corresponding villages at least 15 km away, were selected. Capillary blood samples in the form of thick and thin films were taken from 1771 of the 1874 inhabitants of the four villages. Throughout the four villages, 4% of inhabitants had malaria parasitaemia due to Plasmodium vivax or Plasmodium falciparum.
