Malaria as an occupational disease

, : Malaria as an occupational disease. Bulletin of the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia 44/45(1/4): 43-50

This paper reviews 95 cases of imported malaria (mainly Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax) in Polish citizens treated at the Clinic of the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine, Gdynia, Poland, during the period 1984-1993. Occupational, epidemiological and clinical aspects are considered. Most of the patients examined were seafarers, fishermen, priests and missionaries. They were infected mostly in West Africa, during their first year of work there.
