An account is given of the origin and morphology of the Hispano-Bretona breed, which accounted for 10.87% of the horse population in Catalonia in 1989. Horses of this working breed are traditionally grazed in the hills during the summer and wintered in the valleys, and are mainly used for meat production. The average annual foaling rate is 76.9%.
