Details are given of the joint German/Dominican development project for rational management of dry forests in the SW of the Dominican Republic. Data are given on the forest inventory, and on the 4 dry-forest types distinguished, viz. (I) dense, mean annual increment (m.a.i) ca. 4.5 msuperscript 3; (II) open, m.a.i. ca. 2.5 msuperscript 3; (III) thorny, m.a.i. ca. 1.5 msuperscript 3; and (IV) sparse vegetation, m.a.i. ca. 0.8 msuperscript 3.
