Management of phosphorus in wheat based cropping system in valleys of Himachal Pradesh

In field trials on experimental farms and in farmers' fields in the Kangra and Kullu valleys in 1971-94, the phosphorus requirement of maize-wheat and rice-wheat cropping systems was studied. In the maize-wheat system, at Palampur the addition of 60 kg P2O5/ha increased the yield of maize 2-3 times and that of wheat 3-6 times compared to controls, whereas there was no significant response of P in maize and wheat at Bajaura.
