Mass flow measurement with a curved plate at the exit of an elevator

, : Mass flow measurement with a curved plate at the exit of an elevator. Precision agriculture Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, 23-26 June 1996: 703-712

The grain flow at the exit from an elevator (e.g. on a combine harvester) pulsates and disperses over a wide angle. A smoothed and concentrated flow was achieved by installing a curved chute as a guidance fixture at the exit. This guidance gave parallel streamlines if the flow at the entrance was tangential to it, and caused a centrifugal force that limited the effects of inclination; however, it caused frictional losses.
