Maxillary sinusitis caused by Ascotricha chartarum Berk. (anamorph Dicyma ampullifera Boul.): a new phaeoid opportunistic human pathogen

, : Maxillary sinusitis caused by Ascotricha chartarum Berk. (anamorph Dicyma ampullifera Boul.): a new phaeoid opportunistic human pathogen. Journal of Medical and Veterinary Mycology 34(3): 215-218

A case is reported in a 35-yr-old woman from India who presented in 1993 with a hard bony swelling on the right cheek. X-ray showed a complete opacity of the right maxillary antrum with a shadow of erosion. Computed tomography scan revealed a radio opaque mass with a vacuolated appearance in the antrum. The debris removed from the antrum contained phaeoid fungal elements. At places, softening of the bone was observed.
