Abstract
An ethnobotanical survey was conducted in Lavras Novas, a remote village with no Western-type health care system and dominated by a black population (500 inhabitants). Forty-eight medicinal plants are currently used in Lavras Novas. Their Latin, common and family names are listed, together with information on medicinal properties. Most of these plants are cultivated locally.
