A novel technique for morphological identification of members of the S. damnosum complex has already been developed for the Onchocerciasis Control Programme area of West Africa (see chapter 19 in D.L. Hawksworth (ed.) Identification and Characterization of Pest Organisms, Wallingford, UK: CAB International) and this discriminant analysis method was tested on specimens obtained from further east.
