New breeding lines with resistance to fusarium wilt and powdery mildew in netted melon and studies of F1 characters

Netted melon (Cucumis melo) line TK1 with resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis and powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) was bred from the cross Takamatu x Kurume 2. Resistant lines NAT1, NAT2 and NAT3 were developed from crosses between the Earl's Favourite selections Natsukei 7 and Earl's Toukai PF70. These breeding lines were crossed with the Earl's Favourite selections Harukei 3, Natsukei 1, Natsukei 7 and Atumi Earl's. The best F1 hybrid obtained was 92-4 from Harukei 3 x TK1.
