Okra seeds (cv. Akkoy) were harvested 18, 25, 32, 36, 39, 43, 46, 50 or 60 days after anthesis (DAA) in 1994 and 1995. Seeds were tested for germination at 25 degrees C over 28 days. Seeds that did not imbibe were considered hard seeds. Seed moisture content dropped to 10% by 50 DAA in both years. No seeds were able to germinate until 32 DAA. As soon as seeds began to germinate at 36 DAA, the percentage of hard seeds increased as seed moisture content declined.
