Oxalate toxicity in ruminants fed overgrown napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum)
Sidhu, P.K.; Joshi, D.V.; Srivastava, A.K., 1996: Oxalate toxicity in ruminants fed overgrown napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum). Indian Journal of Animal Nutrition 13(3): 181-183
Two toxicity outbreaks resulting from feeding of overgrown napier grass in cattle and buffaloes were investigated and the results were compared with an experimental study on 4 healthy buffalo calves fed on the same fodder. Similar toxic symptoms, severe inappetence, straining, constipation, dryness of muzzle, dullness, dyspnoea with normal water intake and zero rumen motility were observed in experimental and naturally-affected cattle.
