Ozone effects on trees

Ozone (a photochemically produced air pollutant) is present in potentially damaging concentrations during the summertime in Britain, particularly in rural areas. There is evidence of damage to both coniferous and deciduous species in the field, with indications of changes in sensitivity to other stresses. However, on the present evidence, it is not possible to quantify these effects, and difficult to separate them from those of drought, as the 2 conditions often occur together.
