The inhibition and kinetics of p-nitrophenyl butyrate hydrolysis by esterases of Helix aspersa and Theba pisana were examined. Esterases of H. aspersa were 2.4 times more active than those of T. pisana. The Km values were 2.08 x 10-4 and 2.99 x 10-4 M, while Vmax was 3.32 and 2.07 mu mole p-nitrophenol produced/min/g tissue for H. aspersa and T. pisana, resp.
