Painting of hives and marks near the entrance to reduce drifting

, : Painting of hives and marks near the entrance to reduce drifting. Pchelovodstvo ( 8): 7-8

When 28 or 48 nucleus hives were piled up in a block, queen losses were 25% and 50%, respectively. Colour differentiation tests were made with coloured entrances (a 10 x 10 cm plate against a black hive front); after training a nucleus colony to a particular colour, it was given a choice of this colour and another. Bees did not distinguish between some colour pairs (e.g. blue and white).
