The German Sugar Association intends to continue the decrease in its specific energy consumption (420 kWh/t beet in campaign 1987/88, 360 kWh/t in 1990/91, ~340 in 1994/95) towards targets of 290 kWh/t for 2005/06 and 270 kWh/t by the year 2010; in 2005, the CO2 emission should be ~25% lower than in 1990.
