A new experimental methodology for determining unsaturated soil hydraulic properties is proposed. The soil hydraulic properties were assumed to be represented by the Van Genuchten closed-form expressions. Unknown parameters were identified using two different optimization techniques: (i) a non-linear least-squares algorithm; and (ii) the pattern-matching capability of a neural network.
