Pathogenicity of an Actinobacillus salpingitidis/avian Pasteurella haemolytica-like isolate from layer hens that died suddenly

Pathogenicity of an Actinobacillus salpingitidis/avian Pasteurella haemolytica-like isolate from layer hens that died suddenly

Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association 50(2): 85-88

Thirteen 125-day-old pullets were inoculated i.m. with 4.8 x 108 colony forming units of an A. salpingitidis/ avian P. haemolytica-like isolate. Most of the inoculated birds showed no clinical signs. In 1 of 6 birds killed at 13 days after inoculation, the pericardium was severely thickened and adhered to the epicardium. Ruptured egg yolks were observed in the abdominal cavity of 4 of 7 birds killed at 44 days after inoculation.
