A survey of the population density of Lymantria dispar in a cork oak [Quercus suber] forest in Sardinia in 1993 and 1994 is described. Egg mass density was sampled on 35 sites in an area of 30 000 ha and fecundity, fertility and parasitism were determined. Predation on eggs laid in 1993 involved 4% of eggs, caused primarily by Dermestes lardarius.
