Productive performances and meat quality of veal calves fed different amounts of a vegetable milk replacer

The use of a vegetable milk substitute (VMR) based on gelatinized and micronized cereals and soyabean protein was evaluated in 44 French Holstein and 20 Limousin x Montbeliard veal calves. Four experimental diets were prepared by replacing a skim milk substitute (SMR) with increasing amounts of VMR; diet LR contained 100% SMR, 67LR contained 67% SMR and 33% VMR, 33LR contained 33% SMR and 67% VMR, and LV contained 100% VMR.
