The Es-1 and Es-2 genotypes were determined for rabbits from segregating populations produced by crossing inbred strains hypo-responsive and hyper-responsive to high dietary cholesterol. These strains have respectively low and high serum levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. The segregating populations were fed a high-cholesterol diet for 35 days.
