Rate and time of potassium application in transplanted rice

In a field trial in the kharif of 1990 at Ranchi, Bihar, rice IR-36 was given 0, 20, 40 or 60 kg K2O/ha as basal applications, 20 kg basal + 20 kg at tillering, 40 kg basal + 20 kg at tillering or 20 kg basal + 20 kg at tillering + 20 kg at panicle initiation. Grain yield was highest when 60 kg K2O was applied in 3 split applications (3.05 t/ha) compared with 1.19 t with no fertilizers.
