Estimates of total N and P fluxes in rivers to the North Atlantic Ocean from 14 regions in North America, South America, Europe, and Africa are presented. The Amazon basin dominated the overall P flux and had the highest P flux per area. The total N flux from the Amazon was also large. On a per area basis the largest N fluxes were in the highly disturbed watersheds around the North Sea, in NW Europe, and in NE USA. Non-point sources of N dominated riverine fluxes to the coast in all regions.
