A phosphoribulokinase (PRK) antisense construct was introduced into the tobacco genome by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Differences in specific activities of ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) between wild type and transgenic plants expressing 5% of wild type PRK were observed. The mechanism causing this difference was examined.
