Resistance of maize genotypes with different physical and chemical characteristics to attack by Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Resistance of maize genotypes with different physical and chemical characteristics to attack by Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Revista Colombiana de Entomologia 20(1): 37-42

ISSN/ISBN: 0120-0488

Resistance to Sitophilus zeamais was determined for maize genotypes with modified protein quality (MPQ) or carrying the Opaque-2 gene. The evaluation of resistance was based mainly on the susceptibility index (S.I.) which is based on the number of emerged insects in the F1 progeny and the developmental period. The commercial lines BR-105, BR-106 and BR-107 had a low S.I. Among maize varieties with the Opaque-2 gene, Yellow flint He02 was more resistant than IAC-1-02-IV.
