Role of IL12 in induction of cell-mediated immunity to Toxoplasma gondii

Role of IL12 in induction of cell-mediated immunity to Toxoplasma gondii

Research in Immunology 146(7/8): 539-545

The role of interleukin (IL)-12 in establishing the host immune response to Toxoplasma gondii is reviewed, with reference to interferon (IFN)- gamma -dependent cell mediated immunity, the role of IL-12 in the initiation of the innate IFN- gamma response, the role of IL-12 in adaptive immunity, and control of IL-12 function during infection. Studies have shown that T. gondii is a potent, IFN- gamma -independent stimulus of controlled IL-12 production and, as a result, an effective stimulator of protective cell-mediated immunity.
