Role of IPGRI in the collection, conservation and utilization of tropical and subtropical fruit species genetic resources

Role of IPGRI in the collection, conservation and utilization of tropical and subtropical fruit species genetic resources

JIRCAS International Symposium Series ( 3): 7-15

The work of IPGRI in promoting the conservation and use of tropical and subtropical fruit species is discussed. Its role and achievements are described, including germplasm collection (from the Asia, Pacific and Oceania (APO) region; West and North Africa; Sub-Saharan Africa and other African countries; Central America, Mexico and the West Indies; and South America); germplasm characterization, evaluation and documentation; conservation; and ecogeographic surveys and in situ conservation.
