Data are presented on seasonal changes in biomass, net primary productivity and turnover of dry matter of para grass (Brachiaria mutica, possibly suitable for silvopastoral systems) established as root slips in June 1990 at 25x25 cm spacing under a mixed tree stand and also as an adjacent open stand at Kumarganj, Uttar Pradesh. The tree stand was 25 yr old and dominated by Pongamia pinnata, with Azadirachta indica, Dalbergia sissoo, Prosopis spicigera Butea monosperma and Cordia myxa.
