Selection for high sum of oil and protein in Ethiopian mustard (Brassica carinata Braun)

Selection for high sum of oil and protein in Ethiopian mustard (Brassica carinata Braun)

Cruciferae Newsletter 19: 97-98

M3 seeds derived from a previous mutation breeding programme were screened for high oil and/or high protein content in 1993. Selected phenotypes were then grown during 1994-96, with pedigree selection being undertaken. All of the lines showed a considerable increase in the sum of oil and protein compared to the wild line C101. A highly significant and negative correlation (r = -0.96) was observed between oil and protein content in 1996.
