In in vitro tests in Bulgaria during 1988-90, the majority of Phytophthora and Pythium isolates from roots of greenhouse-grown crops showed some tolerance of metalaxyl (as 25% Ridomil WP). Tolerant strains of Phytophthora cryptogea were found on Gerbera in 3 localities, the most tolerant one originating from Varna and showing mycelial growth in 100 mg/litre metalaxyl, the others in 1-15 mg/litre.
