Sequential changes in IgM and IgG subclass antibody responses in mice to egg antigens of Schistosoma japonicum revealed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunoblotting

Schistosoma japonicum egg antigens recognized by specific IgM and IgG subclasses in serum pools from BALB/c mice at 8 and 16 weeks pi were investigated by immunoblotting. IgM antibody strongly bound with egg antigens having a molecular weight (MW) range of 58 to 265 kDa and 360 kDa. The IgM binding patterns were similar at 8 and 16 weeks pi. IgG1 in sera at 8 weeks pi reacted with antigens with a MW >40 kDa, whereas that in sera at 16 weeks pi reacted with antigens of MW <40 kDa.
