Studies on asexual proliferation of genetic male sterile rape (Brassica napus L.): I. Reproduction of genetic male sterile rape plants in vitro

Male-sterile plants were visually identified in flowering plants of 156AB, a genic male sterile line of rape (B. napus), and leaf axils were cultured on MS medium supplemented with NAA (0.01, 0.05, 0.1 or 0.2 mg/litre) and BA (1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 mg/litre). After 3 to 4 days, 1 or 2 shoots were transferred to fresh culture medium and numerous axillary shoots were obtained, most of which flowered. Foliar shoots gradually increased in subsequent subcultures.
