Studies on potassium fertilization of sugarcane. I. Effect of rates and time of application on yield and quality

Sugarcane GT 9/54 grown at Assiut University Experimental Farm in 1992-94 was given 50 or 100 kg K2O/feddan applied on 1 July, 1 Aug. or 1 Sep. in 1992 (plant crop) and 1993 (1st ratoon crop). Cane yield of the plant crop was 24.1 t/feddan without applied K and was highest (31,15 t) when 100 kg K2O was applied in Aug. This latter treatment also gave the highest sugar yield (4.41 t/feddan), although sugar concentration in the cane was highest when 50 kg K2O was applied on 1 Sep.
