Studies on rapid bacterial counting method for raw milk using the Bactoscan

Bactoscan counts (BC) were compared with standard plate counts (SPC) on 3092 samples of raw milk. Regression equations established between SPC (X) and BC (Y) were Y = 0.796X + 1.240(log) for total samples, Y = 0.730X + 1.548(log) for 1240 winter samples, Y = 0.861X + 1.000(log) for 873 spring samples and Y = 0.864X + 0.795(log) for 979 summer samples; the correlation coefficient between the 2 methods were 0.83, 0.74, 0.89 and 0.85 respectively and were all statistically significant.
